What is a Telecentre?

Telecentres/Telecottages in Powys are very difficult to characterise because they derive from a range of Community, business and individual agendas.

The common link (embedded in the constitution) is that they provide public with access to modern information and communications technologies which is very important in the very rural communities of Powys, which has the lowest density of population anywhere in England and Wales A good (generic) description of their function and role can be found in the Teleworking Handbook published by the Telecottage Association you can also find out more at their site at http://www.tca.org.uk.

The essential element of the Powys Telecentre network is the network of volunteers. Without this band of more than 65 unsung volunteer heroes, the network would simply cease to exist.
